- I'm using the highest available image resolution that is contained in the srcset attribute. If you'll open this article in the new tab you can see it's the same quality as here. It can be unreliable to remove the whole "?w=N" part because it can be image of any size, even bigger than 5 MB, which is the limit for IV.

- This is the exact same image size. "undrfined" uses the following link, as you can see for yourself when you inspect the IV preview:

That link is actually the same as in the article. It uses 980px × 551px and is the highes available quality. if you are talking about the cropping of the image - this is still the same as the one shown to the user on the original website, so nothing to worry about.
