- This is not a gallery/slideshow in the original article, but a link to an external article (that is then a gallery). Thus it is correct to leave the single image with the clickable link to the gallery.
Injecting the gallery in the way you did would be an insertion of the contents of an article into another one.

Slideshows are required only if the source article shows several photos or other media as a slideshow or gallery.

Even the gallery is not present in the article but also this gallery is not possible to be included because each photo of gallery has a title and a description. if you look at the reporter's template it is missing photo titles of gallery.
