Slideshows must not be used when the article consists entirely of a slideshow (and its caption/description) and there's no other content.

But it's a simple news article which in 99.9% of cases has text in it and the ".note-body" block which usually stores text is present. I hardly believe that 2 news articles from 2016 with a slideshow represent a critical issue for which template should be declined :\

So if there will be an article with gallery without text in a future, your template will display gallery as a slideshow?
