Weird behavior: while this image is always considered the cover image, here it does not. Not having an cover image is not such an issue but it shows an unreliable template.

Being understood that the cover is optional in this case, for this domain my template does not set images as covers when they are marked as small (see the class small-size in the source). In my opinion is inappropriate to use such small images as cover, at least when it's optional.
In addition, there is no high resolution alternative in the source, unless you manipulate the src attribute in order to obtain the original file name. That is what your template does.
This is not a good practice because it can lead to impredicibile results (missing media, image too big to be fetched, etc..). So it's your template that is unreliable at the end! 😜
