Explaining my point about why I think the author's picture has to be preserved in this case:

1. It is located in the body of an article meaning that the author wanted it there. And it makes sense considering the fact that an author talks about herself in an article.

2. Rudimentary content here is the SECOND picture of an author (also highlighted) which traditionally goes after an article. Repetition of the picture justifies that author wants it to be there.
