- Thanks for your detail report. But it's still a link leads to same image but on other site.
If you check those three image links, they all lead to one link `https://nlab.itmedia.co.jp/nl/articles/1902/01/news133.html#l_ma_loft02_w490.jpg`, seems the author was trying to give image source link here while he already gave the media credit in figcaption, but obviously he was too lazy to add one by one. And, there's no link for the third image. So I think it's not really needed to keep it in this special case.

These images link to a fragment of a different page. In this case the fragment par of the URL is "#l_ma_loft02_w490.jpg".
Looks like this template does not preserve image links if `href` ends with ".jpg".
Note that it's perfectly valid for a non-image link to end with a known image file extenstion. URL fragments is just one case.
