Article footer is okay to leave (this is part of article text after all). There's even special tag for that in IV 2.0 for that — footer, which I use.

These links can't be safely removed or assumed as related/unrelated as they are often used inside paragraphs for links right from text.
It WOULD break things if you try to remove them, example on your template:
