In addition to issue #1: We **can** check whether an image is valid or not. They are always placed on this domain, they always have the same format. You can detect invalid links by checking if their urls end with "/image/" because this is how it works here: if there are no images available, they just point og:image to the directory where the images could be stored.
Anyway, neither the desktop nor the mobile version of TG displays this broken image. Link preview has not an image in these cases.
