I don't think these things are suitable for kickers. 80% of them don't contain flashy headlines, only short version of main ones – sometimes even duplicates of them. Also, they are often too long.

They are absolutely suitable, and their length does not matter.
When kicker duplicates the title, it's not an issue, if that's what the original article displays.
