This is a complex solution that doesn't seem really reliable.
1. Nobody sees these images on real pages. They are only used for link previews, so I believe it isn't necessary to modify page content in this case.
2. First image !== cover image. What if they have a completely different picture for link preview? Well, you can try to compare the urls, but I think it's unnecessary. Article content remains the same.
