These things are not real cites.
You've already mentioned this problem before ( but ignored slideshows. There are more similar cases:

I think the most reliable way to fix it is to check whether a .fancybox-caption__source has a preceding caption **with text**. If it does, turn it into <cite>. Otherwise, leave it as is.
What can I do if they are misusing their own classes? Are you sure that a number of these "similar cases" is higher that a number of "normal cases", when cites are used properly?
