There's a bunch of articles with this type of galleries. You can make sure that they are galleries by clicking on one of the images or checking class of their container (it's "gallery-group"). Therefore, in my opinion, they should be placed in a <slideshow> tag.
Even if you perceive those blocks of images as non-galleries, every image has an identifiable caption, which should be stored in an appropriate tag.
