- On the page, it works like this: When the user clicks on the image, additional information is displayed.
Since such a functionality does not exist in IV, I've decided it's best to include it rather than omit it and only include it in the slideshow (redundant information > missing information).
On this page, the information in the caption might be unnecessary, but there could be cases where the caption provides more information than the article text, and I didn't want to risk that.

"Any captions present in the source article must be preserved. ..."
The captions are not present in the source unless you click and interact with them (which opens a window showing the image and caption inside the gallery).
In other words, the captions on the images are extra and only should be included in the slideshow.
