- Nope, on THIS site removing "-NNNxNNN" from the path is DANGEROUS, and here's why:
You often get images looking differently than the original.
For example: http://obozvrn.ru/otkazat-ne-posmel-abubakar-arsamako/.
On this image: http://obozvrn.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/2.Arsamakov-300x300.jpg — you see a man.
If you remove "-300x300", a women would get into frame: http://obozvrn.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/2.Arsamakov.jpg.
Other example: http://obozvrn.ru/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/S0Wd-300x300.jpg — only a photo and a name are shown.
http://obozvrn.ru/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/S0Wd.jpg — extra data below & above is shown.
So, in your template, you added your own content by showing an image other than in the original. On this site, originals without "-NNNxNNN" are raw material that shouldn't get into pages.

- This is true. Removing the resolution can lead to bad issues. The website reader won't ever see another image as well, so why bother using a higher res one, which is not even accessible from the website itself.
