According to Rule 6.2.3, slideshows must not be used "When the article consists entirely of a slideshow (and its caption/description) and there's no other content."
There aren't any paragraphs of text following images that you might miss. Putting images in a list provides a better user experience because nobody will swipe through sometimes 40+ images in a slideshow
