- I hope to postpone the moment when AI will take our jobs by being creative sometime and having my own opinion. During testing I tried both variants and it turns out this way is better for the eyes (at least for mine).

- This is not displayed as a cover (in the conventional sense) on the original website, so this can be considered a style choice by the template creator.
It would certainly be better as a header, but not a major issue in this case.
