- I understand you and I find your point fair, really, but I think both ways are fine with one exception, if I'd leave links to images that shows up the same image (exact same quality) it would make general experience worse.
I'm generating the IVs only for subpages in case they will be sent directly.
If I'm wrong here - congrats on the win :)

But to send it directly firstly you need to access it. The only way to access such page is to open the initial article and click on the image, but your template doesn't support it. User will have to open this article in a browser to access this single-image page.
In my opinion, if you perceive this single-image pages and its content as meaningful and "generate-worthy" (sorry for bad eng), you must maintain ways for a user to access it.
