I believe this isn't enough for merging all photos into one huge slideshow which is impossibly difficult to navigate through.

That page also contains a paragraph of text the role of which is the same as here. And yes, it's clearly mentioned in the checklist that slideshows shouldn't be used if an article contains a **description** of the photos (like in the current case).
