اذیت و آزار مسلمانان ساکن دنیای غرب تنها بخشی از اهداف پروژه اسلام هراسی است. جلوگیری از اقبال عمومی به اسلام به خصوص در آمریکا که بیشترین تعداد گروندگان به اسلام در این کشور را جوانان تشکیل می دهند و نیز تشدید فعالیت گروه های تندروی ضد اسلامی برای حمایت از اسرائیل به عنوان خط مقدم جبهه مبارزه با دنیای اسلام از دیگر اهداف پروژه های اسلام هراسی در دنیای غرب است. سال 2012 برای مسلمانان ساکن غرب سال پر از اهانت و آزار و عدم امنیت بود. تا جایی که چندین نهاد بین المللی در این مورد تذکراتی به برخی دولت ها دادند.
