- If we look into HTML source, each image didn't have <figcaption> or anything tag like that. Do we need caption for that? Is it optional? From the Docs: If the image has no caption, but has meaningful text in the alt attribute, you may use that text as the caption. This is optional, we will not accept issues about alt-text missing from captions.

The perfect template here should preserve the captions, and display them as such:
"Any captions present in the source article must be preserved."
If it was ONLY present as Alt text and not as a caption, then yes - it would be optional
