Author name is required if it is presented in the source article in a clear way (at the top of the page, at the very end of the text, in the meta tags etc.), especially if there's a name of an actual person.

Author have and or surname, i think it is not critical. Not all page have author, some have publisher, and some have like "N.V" "A.B"

Your template shows the author in those cases when there's no author URL, e.g.:

But when there's an author link on the page, your template simply removes this info.
