it says in the checklist:
"Thumbnail for link preview must be shown if a suitable image or document exists in the source."
I use an image that is present in meta for link preview image and I don't know why you think it is inappropriate?! the checklist didn't say that you must use a pic in the article, it says that an image in the source must be declared as the link preview image and I did it tho :)
