- There is a series of photos for a product. To my mind, slideshow is the best for this.
Not sure about using alt for caption. Perhaps I shouldn't use alt in slideshow. As I can see, alt in image and caption under photo are almost the same. "Nokia N90 dilluncurkan...." is likely paragraph with details than caption.

- Yes, it seems that text about the photo is lost.
Also, for a page where the content is just a single gallery, the photos should not be shown as a slideshow.

As i say previously this site divide articles into several pages, and slideshow not exception.
Its should not have slideshow but use simple navigation, as other articles.
Because original page have only "visual effect" of slideshow, but actualy you get new page for each image with new captions and some time with new description.
1. Text that used as caption is @alt tag which is the same as slideshow caption that uses in all pages of this slideshow.
2. In most cases @alt caption is different from what user see in original.
"Masih ingatkah Anda dengan 16 ponsel Nokia berdesain unik?"
and original:
"Masih ingatkah Anda dengan 16 ponsel Nokia berdesain unik? © 2016 telegraph.co.uk"
3. Most pages have a REAL caption which is starts with "Nokia N90 dilluncurkan...."
If you delete the simple navigation and add slideshow, you miss all captions, and original caption. You got only one caption for each image in your slid
