There's no way to identify which of them should be converted to <pic> properly, since they sometimes use big pictures, and sometimes small. It is by no means a common issue, these articles are rare.

Also, it's not mandatory and is certainly not critical.

Look, here they are using big images in a same type of an article, and you can't identify if they'll use big or small images:
