- I think trying to catch such <br>s is not reliable and introduces possibility of breakage in other articles. Especially replacing them with <hr>s as you did.
Also it looks like a single custom formatting from this single author. I couldn't find other examples of it in his or others articles after browsing through quite a lot. Have you found these? Creating workarounds for single occurrences isn't what we should do.
