- That's the original page's flaw. They've populated the "author" meta data with the author's email address. On the other hand there is no sure way to interpret any email-like or URL-like string to be wrong for author name because those can be the real identifier of a contributing user of the website.
Also, note that the assignment is automatically done within the "after" block (which equally applies to all templates). If a template wants to prevent "after" block assignment, it should remove the meta tag, and that means removing essential content from the source. So, I don't think that's an acceptable way.
