The images and (now-)captions are *the main medium* of this article. Unlike inline slideshows.
You can tell that by associated text being multi-paragraph and long, and with a heading (bold text). That's completely unreadable when in captions.

So it must not be presented as a slideshow, but rather images with text content one after another.

Images have real caption (with credit) though, these should be preserved. But the main text should be left intact.
