Apologies for the confusion caused by this, but this link should not be removed.

- Twitter buttons and other interactive social media content should always be removed

- Social media links with no relation to the content (such as a newspaper promoting its Twitter page at the end of every article) should be removed as long as it is possible to reliably and safely do this

- Links which are clearly part of the article content but also happen to be social media links (like in this case), should not be removed

Template #28 Issue #3

Missing time component in published_date; last paragraph should be used to populate author
Wahiduzzaman Hridoy
That full time is an h2 tag. that's mean subtitle. if I catch time from there it would not work for other pages.

and also if I take author name from the last <p> tag. that would also not work for other pages.

WikiLeaks doesn't follow any structure though.
Declined by admin
"Author name is required only if it is consistently presented in the source article in a clear way (at the top of the page, at the very end of the text, in the meta tags etc.)"

Template #28 Issue #4
Feb 5, 2019
You only have the first section, but there are a lot of sections here. Also, the intro paragraph should be the description. Be careful not to use the timestamp from the first section for published_date unless it's the only section--a lot of other templates have made that mistake.
Wahiduzzaman Hridoy
I think iv page should not generate for this type of pages. There's no individual article. It just a page of some listed article, means more than one. so I decided to turn of iv for this type of pages.

Wahiduzzaman Hridoy
That is not a social media button or specific area for social media section. I think there will be no effect fot this.

Missing all the other sections. It definitely should have IV; you can display it properly. It's a static article suitable for IV. If you don't add the other sections, it's just going to get declined again. You'd be better off with no IV than a partial IV.

Re: Missing time component in published_date; last paragraph should be used to populate author

No, just because it looks like a subtitle on the page doesn't mean you need to display it as a subtitle. Web developers aren't always that great at designing pages, as can be seen by the fact that the date is displayed twice on this page, one right after the other.

I didn't have any trouble extracting the time in my template. It's definitely possible, even though they're inconsistent. Enough pages have the timestamp marked this way that it's worth it to extract the time. It gets tricky when the h2 lacks a year but has a time component, and the div.timestamp has a year but lacks a time component; then you have to merge them and parse the result.

This link is fine, as it is part of the article content, and not some constant advertising, promotion, etc. on Wikileaks pages
Template #37 Issue #1
Feb 7, 2019
It seems you have chosen to strip out this particular social media link, however this is not appropriate because it is part of the article - and not some form of constant promotion across the Wikileaks site.

If you are removing this, why not also (the highlighted) "un sitio web (www.guerrillapictures.tv/TheEngineer)" text too?

It is really good that you are looking out for unneeded social media links, but it does not make sense to remove this particular content because it is a link to the profile of a user who created the content being discussed in the article and is therefore does not fall under the "not essential to the article" rule (https://instantview.telegram.org/checklist#4-content-to-be-removed)

Paul (@Zenexer)
There was previously an accepted issue in which someone reported the Twitter link as needing to be removed. I don't personally think it needs to be removed; I'm simply complying with your previous comments.

It does appear on multiple pages in much the same way--in fact, I don't think it was this particular page that was reported previously. Only the Twitter link had been reported.

It's worth noting that this particular website is extremely inconsistent, so this template is filled with heuristic rules. There's a LOT of guessing going on, but because they stick everything in the bodies of the articles, it's the only way.

I can remove it if you want, but keep in mind that it appears on multiple pages and an issue requesting its removal has been accepted previously.

Hey,

Thanks for your clear post, it really helped to understand your reasoning

I believe you are referring to this issue (it is regarding the same page):
https://instantview.telegram.org/contest/wikileaks.org/template15/issue2/

The decision in that case was incorrect, sincere apologies for that. We have reverted and posted some clarification there, which I have also copied below:

- Twitter buttons and other interactive social media content should always be removed

- Social media links with no relation to the content (such as a newspaper promoting its Twitter page at the end of every article) should be removed as long as it is possible to reliably and safely do this

- Links which are clearly part of the article content but also happen to be social media links (like in this case), should not be removed

However, in this case your own template does not support these, so until it can be demonstrated that it is possible to support these on this domain this issue will not be accepted

Note also: This rule does not mean that you need to display the anchor links in the IV, it only means that if a user enters IV from a link such as:

https://wikileaks.org/cia-france-elections-2012/#Press%20Release%20(English)

The "releases" page is a composite page of multiple sections (called "Releases"). Each of the releases is dated and has its own anchor for the "All Releases" navigation section. In this case, it just happens that there is only one release, but that still makes it the date of the release, not of the page.

The title of the first release (Protego) has become the page title (which should have been "Vault 7: Projects") and now the section is missing its title.

Please refer to my template for an example that does not exhibit this behavior.
Alex
No, this is a section description. And all your links will be called the same if you do not add another title.
Accepted by admin
Setting the first <h1> in the body is not a safe way of setting the title of the IV. That's why this template ends up generating a corrupted IV.

Looking at the source code for the source page, it is clear that "Protego" is the <h1> of its #Protego div. It is the title of that div, not the title of the body.

Social media link should be removed
Elian Doran
Very similar to https://instantview.telegram.org/contest/wikileaks.org/template62/issue2/.

The social media links are part of the content, written manually by the article author in an unidentifiable paragraphs. The only way to remove it would be to blacklist Twitter links and remove the entire paragraph which might prove problematic if the author decides to add additional information to that paragraph, other than the link.

Considering the circumstances, I think this should not be used as a basis for rejecting the template.

time should be present in the iv page. al social media link should be removed
Elian Doran
The Twitter link is article-specific, meaning that there could be a potentially unlimited quantity of Twitter links for different articles. You probably remove all paragraphs containing a Twitter link, which is honestly undesirable. Please refer to https://instantview.telegram.org/contest/wikileaks.org/template15/issue2/

As for the date, apparently Wikileaks has a few articles in which the date is written both as an unidentifiable paragraph and as a timestamp that is almost always present. I have chosen to prefer the field containing only the date which is present in more pages, rather than to randomly parse paragraphs for dates.

Although it might seem to be the date of the page, it is actually the date of the release. It just happens that this particular page only has a single release. Check https://wikileaks.org/vault7/ for an identical example but which has multiple release dates.

If I send you several such articles, they will not differ in title in the preview. This is just common sense.

for this case, you should not use author name I think. Cause, There are many release articles on one page.
Elian Doran
In this particular case the author for all the sections is the staff, and by extension the author of the page is the staff.

I think this should be considered an issue only in the circumstances in which they are at least two different authors, case in which it would indeed break the template's coherence.

Checklist states "Main navigation bars and menus removed (essential navigation may be adjusted to simple links)".
Let's review the navigation on this page:
1. The "main navigation" (Leaks, News, About, Partners) is removed.
2. Shop, Archives, Editorials are removed.

The navigation hereby presented is article-specific (they all belong to the Sony family of articles) and thereby might be considered part of the essential navigation. As mentioned by the rules, the buttons (and thus, the arguably essential navigation) has been adjusted to simple links.
