There's essential image + only article illustration. It placed in right column. It's visible for user on the first screent (either on desktop or mobile version) and we should follow this rule. Because this type of articles always has only one main image (or one main slideshow), it's acceptable to use it as a cover, because there's no chance of using incorrect image & because it's wiki-like content (Wikipedia also places main image in right column, for example).
