I don't know whose fault this is but the images look overcompressed

- Cover image looks good, but if you mean these 6 pics with the link to a gallery, it's special Instant View feature named Collage. It allows to display part of images if a gallery size is not predictable but it's important here to keep gallery link as an essential part of the content. These pics are sort of thumbnails and you can see full-size versions if you follow caption link.
