- Gizmodo is a very big and popular website. There is always a human-made description in meta, they create it specially for social networks and sharing, which is the case for IV, too, actually.
Plus, I don't think this first paragraph, which you are suggesting, is much more informative, than already exsisting one.
Plus, the description I use is what is shown on the main page.
In my opinion, it is better to use meta.
