It's not always a good idea to get better image quality by src modification, but replacing ".thumb" is an exception. It can't lead to corrupted image links

Actually, altering the image src without it being displayed anywhere on the website is more dangerous and is the right way to corrupted images.

Taking it from <a> tag is safer
