- Paragraphs AFTER slideshow and BEFORE slideshow are different things. Because if it's AFTER and images are parsed as <slideshow> it's possible that user won't see the text after it, while it can be quite important to understand the whole article.
Also, what if website admins decide to put like 50 sentences in one paragraph? What if there will be two extremely short paragraphs? Your solution isn't reliable at all.
My point here is that we shouldn't try to "guess" where there should be gallery and where it should be list of images. And because it's slideshow in the original, I think it's better to leave it as is.

But on this page you also detect if paragraphs are exists then slideshow transform to simple images. When you say that the text definition method is not reliable (I see no reason for it), you contradict yourself because you use this method on the current page.
Summary: On current page and on other page (issue4) used a different methods for displayed photos. I think what my method is reliable:
